EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE

IDPs
Advocacy &
Protection
As we have
observed, the Internally Displaced People
(IDPs) sometimes face hostile welcome
from the host communities.
In many cases, SYPD has registered local
communities complaining about the influx
of IDPs into their areas. They say the
IDPs are occupying grazing lands for
their livestock. For that reason, some
IDPs are denied to settle in some
areas. |

Displaced
families have settled under the trees.
The Farmers see such settlement as
disturbing the land for their livestock
|
In addition, the IDPs also face other
violence such as robbery, rape, etc.
Therefore,
SYPD is raising the awareness of the public
to provide every help they can to the
displaced people.
SYPD is
encouraging co-living and interaction
between the local community and the
displaced people. To make this practical,
SYPD encourages the local community to
share some of the facilities provided to
the IDPs such as bit latrines, boreholes,
etc.
Besides that,
SYPD also advocates for the protection of
the IDPs so that they may live in their
temporary settlements peacefully and
without threat.
