United Nation Country Team

The United Nations Country Team for Somalia invited local NGO's including SYPD to participate in workshops on IDP and protection issues.

The workshop was sponsored by IDMC, UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF and OCHA and was held in Merka Somalia, 12 - 14 March, 2006. This workshop was succeeded by similar workshop in Bosaso town, Somalia on March 8- 10, 2006.

SYPD were represented by Mr. Abdishakur Farey, coordinator and IDP's focal point. During the workshop, Mr. Shakur presented a very interesting ideas and experiences related to young IDP's in the country.

By the end of the workshop, participants outlined protection response plans, and agreed the establishment of an IDP working group of NGO’s.

The working group will formulate strategies and durable solutions to problems faced by the internally displaced people in the country.

SYPD is also committed to empower young girls in the war ravaged Somalia.
