ABOUT US
Headquartered in
Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia, the Somali Youth for
Peace and Democracy (SYPD) is a non-profit, non- partisan,
non-governmental, youth led organization founded in August
2004 by a group of Somali youth activists. SYPD was formed
specifically to build strategic networks of young, social
change leaders, development practitioners, and key
decision-makers.
The
goal of SYPD is to create an atmosphere in which Somali youth
can express their voices, involve in the process of peace
building, and reconciliation and in political decision- making
procedures that affect their future.
SYPD
is committed to establish youth empowerment programs that are
dedicated to social change and struggles to harness Somali
youth energy and passion to build a democracy oriented society
that promotes positive values such as; peace, democracy,
equality, good governance and justice.
Besides peace
and democracy, SYPD works in the field of emergency response.
Coverage
Area
The
organization operates in and covers Banadir, Lower
Shabelle, Middle Shabelle, Hiran, Bay and Bakol
regions of Somalia. It works very closely with the target
communities in its coverage areas in a participatory
approach. SYPD always considers credibility, transparency
and accountability with the stakeholders.
