SYPD Wins an Award for Outstanding Performance
In recognition to outstanding achievements to help the needy people in Somalia, the International Youth Foundation (IYF) based in USA has offered SYPD YouthActionNet award in November, 2006. SYPD founder and Chairperson Mr. Abdinasir Nur accepted the award at a ceremony held at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace center in Washington.
Opening Youth Movement for Democracy Club
SYPD strives to build strong networks of youth committed to social change. To achieve that goal, SYPD launched a Youth Movement for Democracy Club (YMDC) that unites 120 youth living in Mogadishu. The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) funded the firs
Capacity Building Training for SYPD
The European Union (EU) funded a female trainer to enhance the institutional capacity of SYPD. During the six month project, SYPD board and management staff received training on project management and other aspects. SYPD Institutional policies, procedures, and financial records were reformed and updated.
SYPD Built more than 2000 latrines for the IDP
To improve sanitary and protect hygiene related diseases, SYPD constructed more than 2000 pit atrines for displaced people in Mogadishu and surrounding areas. The Project is funded by Norwegian Refugee Council and targeted around 5,000 direct and indirect families uprooted by Mogadishu violence.
Democracy Promotion Campaigns
In 2007, SYPD held four workshops to enhance the understanding of Democracy among 120 youth living in Mogadishu. Participants were selected from different schools, youth groups, clubs and associations. The project was funded by National Endowment for Democracy (NED) based in USA.
Ramadan Food Distribution
During the holy month of Ramadan, SYPD distributed food donated by Islamic Relief (IR) to poor families in Mogadishu city.
NFI Distribution to the IDP
In collaboration with Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), SYPD distributed thousands of Non Food Item. (NFI) kits including plastic sheets, blankets, shampoos, soap, and sanitary towels to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) living in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia.
SYPD Distibutes Water Pumps to Farmers in Hiiraan
SYPD provided 12 water pump machines to 72 farming families living in three villages of Hiran region, Somalia. These poor farmers are currently using these machines to irrigate their farms rather than waiting for rainfalls that are erratic and unpredictable. Therefore, project has enhanced their agricultural production substantially.
Rehabilitating Agricultural Infrastructures
Since December 2008, SYPD is rehabilitating agricultural infrastructures (four culverts and five canals) in 12 villages located in Hiran region, Somalia. The UNDP funded project is also creating job opportunities for more than 400 people, 40% of them female.
